There is a U-turn on Spruce and a gate (I can't remember if there is a sign saying Deadhorse or not - the gate says the area is closed to bikes). Go through the gate and you will begin to climb on a old trail (still clear however) that will take you up, and around and spit you out onto an old logging road. You can either go right (which deadends in about 200 yards) or left. Left down the road will switch back you down under Bottle Peak and eventually spit you out at the Forest Research Station. You are basically where Spruce dumps you onto Creekside. It adds another serious climb to the loop. As for my Sage Burner, not the smartest or best of races, but so many lessons were learned.Peter N.
