Rest

Rest

One of the hardest things to do for me, and I imagine most athletes, is to rest. With the Sage Burner on Monday, these last few days have been rest days as we try and see what kind of shape we are in on such a short, accelerated schedule. Although we did a 2 hour hike yesterday, we have been trying to just "hang around", which is very difficult. Luckily, the smoke has blown in this morning from the fires in New Mexico, making me not want to really be outside and using my lungs. I sure hope it clears up a bit before Monday - and perhaps we will meet a few other folks at the race. Best of luck everyone!

  1. Sweet run you did Wednesday - Tipperary is a great run but not sure where the Deadhorse turn is? Good Luck tomorrow at Sage Burner - Hartman's is such a sweet trails network!

  2. The Deadhorse turn is on Spruce Creek trail about halfway between the beginning of Spruce and where Tipperary connects up. There is a U-turn on Spruce and a gate (I can't remember if there is a sign saying Deadhorse or not - the gate says the area is closed to bikes). Go through the gate and you will begin to climb on a old trail (still clear however) that will take you up, and around and spit you out onto an old logging road. You can either go right (which deadends in about 200 yards) or left. Left down the road will switch back you down under Bottle Peak and eventually spit you out at the Forest Research Station. You are basically where Spruce dumps you onto Creekside. It adds another serious climb to the loop. As for my Sage Burner, not the smartest or best of races, but so many lessons were learned.
